The aim of the research should be based on a theory of change. The aim of any research should be clear from the very beginning and targeted towards a specific vision. This vision can be about a new discovery, a new product, a new market or a new way of service delivery. It can be about optimisation, on improving current products or practices; or it can be simply about measuring what has been achieved and coming up with a honest assessment. Whatever the vision of the research may be, it has to be pro-active, in line with macro developments and should inspire everyone involved in the research, including the respondents.

We can use qualitative or quantitative methods or have a go at big data analysis. For anything about pricing, market entry, segmentation, feasibility, you must include quantitative methods, and for anything about creativity, innovation, exploration, qualitative methods should be  used.   There is indeed a simple rule about it; quantitative methods for  the matter of mind, and qualitative methods for the matter of heard.

Quality controls, call backs, consistency checks are some of the most basic methods of making sure that your data is high quality.

Analysis is the most fun part of any research, making sense of the data, telling its story, putting the pieces together and coming up with valuable insights is what helps research to make a difference.  A strong researcher should not stop at analysis; simple statistical tools or a rough summary of transcripts.  He or she should provide synthesis,  draw the big picture and then come up with suggestions for actions and  valuable insight which will  facilitate   the vision of the research to be executed in the relevant economic or social context. To do so, a researcher above all, should invest in his / her own intellect and learn continuously.
